Review: The Italian zombies have a father, and his name is Lucio Fulci. Fulci is, with the permission of Dario Argento, the bigger celebrity of the underground Italian horror films in 70’s and 80’s, being this film one of his most crazy creations. City of the Living Dead is about a zombie attack after the death of the dark-forces protector, the priest of the city. With this premise and history, it has all the necessary ingredients to be a worthy B-movie: paranormal actions, saws, maggots, ugly zombies, and lot of blood, gore and funny special effects. That’s why this production may be, as Zombie Flesh Eaters, Lucio Fulci’s most relevant zombie film, and an ensign of the horror Italian B-movies of the XX Century. (Watuzee)
